ROBIN AMER is an award-winning podcast host, editor and showrunner with nearly 20 years professional experience in digital, broadcast and print media.  

As senior producer for audio features at the Washington Post, Robin edits ambitious enterprise and investigative stories for the flagship daily news podcast, Post Reports, as well as standalone narrative podcast series and multiplatform digital projects. Along with her Post colleagues, she was honored this year as a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize and a duPont-Columbia Award. (DuPont winners will be announced in February.)

Robin is best known as the creator of USA Today’s critically acclaimed investigative podcast The City, which over two gripping, binge-worthy seasons explored how power works in urban America. The show was named a best podcast of the year by the New Yorker, the New York Times, Quartz, Apple Podcasts and others, peaked at No. 6 on the Apple Podcast charts, and won the WNYC Podcast Accelerator competition.  

Robin previously served as the deputy editor of the alt-weekly Chicago Reader, where she supervised the paper’s national-award-winning investigations, and as a producer for WBEZ Chicago Public Media.

Her work has been recognized with two national awards from the Sidney Hillman Foundation, among others, and her contributions to the podcast Gravy helped the Southern Foodways Alliance program win the 2015 James Beard Award for best podcast. Her work has been supported by grants and fellowships the Fund for Investigative Journalism and the Social Justice News Nexus at Northwestern University, among others.

Robin received her master’s degree from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University on a full-tuition scholarship from the Robert R. McCormick Foundation. After graduating she worked as an investigative reporting fellow for Medill Watchdog, contributing to a year-long collaboration with The Chicago Tribune that was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize.

She graduated Phi Beta Kappa, magna cum laude from Brown University with an undergraduate degree in Art Semiotics.
